PLEASE HELP !!

Hello Everyone,

I am located in NYC and I was wondering if any nurses can give me some advice. I have a busy work schedule so as you know I am not able to do any nurse programs because they are all in the day time. I found a liberal arts course that works with my schedule but I'm not sure if I should get my associates in liberal arts and then get a BSN or should I just go for my and and cut my work hours ? If anyone could give me some advice on this it will be very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

It doesn't matter what you get your associates in but you'll have to take the science (and other) prereqs. You actually don't have to get an associates to apply to transfer for a bsn. Just look at which school you want to transfer to and check out their prereq requirements. Here is a sample from what stony brook requires:

57 college credits with a grade C or better

in the following courses

Required Courses Credits

English Composition3

Sociology3

Psychology3

Lifespan Development3

Microbiology/Lab4

Anatomy and Physiology I/Lab4

Anatomy and Physiology II/Lab4

Best way to save money is to take all the required prereq courses at a cheap community college and then transfer to a bsn nursing program. Have you done any college work?

A bsn part time while working is definitely possible. Some schools even have night schedules. But it's definitely a long road.

No I have not attended college yet. It would be my first year. I was going to do a private college in Brooklyn. For liberal arts then go to a funny college for my bsn. All community colleges nursing programs are during the day which I can not attend due to work.

try LIU in brooklyn. or maybe look into a part time nursing school.... you might as well do an associates program in nursing instead of liberal arts. That way you have your clinicals out the way. I am at St. Paul's School of Nursing in Queens. They offer evening courses. Look into it if you absolutely need to work...

Yes I absolutely need to work lol. But how is that school going for you. I looked in to it but heard a lot of bad things about it.

It's not that bad so far. It feels good that I'm in nursing school so I am going to make the best of it. Yes some people are rude and yes some faculty can be rude but at the end of the day you're trying to get an education. I've learned that you have to do the work and get out. I'm just focusing on the prize. It's my first semester and I have no complaints.

Was the process hard?

Ive read nothing but terrible reviews i just want to make sure before i invest 30k + in this school. Cuny is cheaper but they have wait list

The process was super easy. Honestly make your own judgement. Visit the school sometime soon and speak to students and make your own decision. I made the decision based on looking for a program that allowed me to work full time and finish in less than 2 years. As of right now, it's the best decision I've made. I had no time to wait for a program to accept me. I've already wasted 4 years of my undergrad years studying a ******t major so I just wanted to be done and be out. If you took any prereqs that will help tons!! In my opinion, I'd suggest taking a&p and micro over the summer somewhere, you will thank yourself a lot. Less work load when you're in the program, and you really want to focus on your nursing classes. And that doesn't apply for St. Paul's but all other programs. I took as many prereqs as I could. St. Paul's is 18 months and that's a lot better than a full two years in my opinion. Good luck and make the best choice for YOU. keep in mind every nursing program is unorganized and their will be rude faculty everywhere. It's up to you to maintain positive energy and just focus on your goals. I hope this helps!!

thank you very much.

i dont mean to be a pain LOL i just dont know anything about this college stuff and dont really have anyone to ask.

can i take those classes somewhere else ? ive never applied to college before.

YES! you can take your prerequisites somewhere. Good luck!
