Please help me

Hello everyone I am pretty new to this forum and I love it so far, I have learned so much so quickly I really wish I had found this board sooner.

I need some advice. I am attending a 4 year University. In March I was accepted into clinicals for this fall. It has come to my attention that there is a chance that I may not be admitted into fall clinicals any longer. What happened is some students that were not conditionally accepted in March because they did not meet the requirements at that time are being accepted now. so if they have a higher gpa they will get a spot and people with lower gpas are being bumped.

I spoke to an advisor and she said I can find out about my placement as late as August. So I have been researching other options. I do not want to wait another year to get accepted into clinicals because I am already behind one year. And I am not so sure if I can afford an extra year of schooling so I am trying to find an econimical way to become an RN.

If I change my major to Psychology in the fall I will be able to graduate on time which is May 2011. So if I am not able to attend clinicals this fall I plan to change my major and either A.apply to an ABSN program or B. attend a nursing school like Beebe School of Nursing. Which is better? Or should I just stay at my 4 year University and spend the extra time here?

All advice is GREATLY appreciated. I apologize for the long post

I am starting a AAS program for RN this fall. I already have my bachelors in biology (plus some extra science classes to boot). With my BS in biology I can continue with other certifications like CNOR, CRNFA if I want, and also continue to a MSN of some sort if I want to later. I suggest thinking about if you might want to pursue a masters or graduate program at some point and looking at the requirements. I don't know if a bachelors in psych would allow you to apply after you get your RN. It may be fine (I didn't research it, I only made sure a biology degree would work), but definitely make sure before you go changing your major to psych. If psych doesn't work, you can't be that far off from a biology instead can you?? I really don't understand how they can accept you and then bump you off... were you only conditionally accpeted or something?

yes it was conditional.

And if I changed my major to biology it would take me the same amount of time for me to graduate as it would if I kept my major as Nursing. So that would not make a difference for me.

What about attending a community college? You said that you are attending a 4 year university... a lot of times community colleges are cheaper. For instance, in OH, we have a 4 year university that offers an RN program (with no waiting list) that is more expensive... At my community college we have a waiting list but the tuition is cheaper, and a lot of new grads get hired due to a good relationship with the college and a local hospital. Good luck, and I hope that you don't get "bumped" after keeping up with the program's requirements. As to changing your major.. if you desperately love the idea of becoming a nurse, you wouldn't be considering changing majors to Psych, before hearing your fate in the program (in my opinion.) I wouldn't trade my dream for anything else, unless I was absolutely kicked out of the program and forced to change my major. Is there something else that you enjoy more? I wish you luck.

As I stated in my 1st post I would only be changing my major to psychology to graduate in May 2011 and then hopefully apply to an ABSN program or a diploma RN school. Nursing is my passion but I am trying to get there the most economical way that I know how.

Sorry to misunderstand your post... (I replied while I was supposed to studying and it was very late here). But anyway, I wish you the best of luck and totally understand that you would not want to pay for school and be a year behind. I hope you can find a way to make things more afforadable. I still think possibly a smaller two year college and then transfering to a bigger school if you wish to continue on to BSN.(If the credits transfer.) Good luck.

Well I got my checklist (what they use to see how many of your pre-reqs you got left) There were boxes for Admitted, Conditional, Denied, and Graduated. They checked off Admitted for me so I am not sure if that makes a difference.

It is certainly good news. :)
