starting an IV...actually!

First of all breath!

remember your procedure-did you take notes or have a handout?

Easy stuff just calm down and it will come to you.

Vein puncture is simply a blue on the surface use a butterfly to hold your nervouse hand steady procedure. Your vacuum tubes should be noted as correct, make sure you follow asepsis techniques. What is the lab for? Make an index card with procedures -review before work and before seeing a pt. Be prepared and that will help. You can only kill them if you do not use proper aseptic techniques!!

Remember the first break you feel while puncturing the skin is just the skin and you do not feel the vein =shortly after the puncture you should have the vein if you palped correctly-careful not to tie it off too tight and explode the vein amoung other non-patient friendly things you can do. Just follow procedure Just like a pilot of an aircraft-if you know where your check list is then you don't have to memorize but one thing and then be able to read and apply. Hope this helps.
