:cry:I need help in finding an area of nursing that is not so stressful. Can any of you suggest any areas, or do they exist? I have worked hospitals, nursing homes, and have been a nurse for 8 yrs. I can not take the stress anymore. My anxiety is getting to me. I suffer from migraines weekly. I have to work to provide for my family. I am considering getting out of nursing completely ( would already if the pay wasn't decent) I went back to school 2 yrs ago for my RN only to be more overwhelmed. I am considering dialysis or home care. If anyone can suggest something, please help??

I do private duty and find it less stressful than what I interpret a hospital to be. I've always worked in private duty since I was an LPN and I compare it to when I was a CNA in the nursing home and can tell that my job is less stressful than an LPN's at a LTCF. You should definitly contact home care agencys in your area and talk to them about their company. You might find something you enjoy. =)

Hope all goes well in your search for a less stressful job!

Home care is the answer for many with your problem. You can work as little or as much as you want. You set your schedule in cooperation with the agency staffing coordinators. You can work on one case for 40 hours per week, or you can work with two or three different patients for as much as you want. You can arrange 4, 6, 8, 12, or 16 hour shifts, or even custom hours, depending on the client's needs and your availability. You only work with one patient at a time. And home care is generally stable, routine care. Make certain that when you interview that you tell them you want to do shift care or continuous care, not intermittent visits (less hustle, bustle, paperwork, and traveling hassles). And don't take on the nursing supervisor role. Just patient care. Usually, you can't get any less stressful than this. And if you get with a client or family that are too much, you tell your agency, and you can switch cases. You aren't forced to work for unreasonable clients or families. Hope you consider home health and that you enjoy it if you decide to try it. :wink2:
