Please Help!!

hello, my name is Andrea, and i am extremely interested in becoming a Nurse, then a PA. These are my plans as of now but unfortunately I know very little about the two professions. I have shadowed a couple times in the ER and met some incredible people that love what they do. My whole life I have traveled and met people from different social structures and have always wanted the oppertunity to have an occupation that would allow me to travel and help people in need. Over the past year I have become very interested in the work of doctors and nurses and their ability to save lives. I know for a fact that I could never make it through med school to become a doctor, and I have also done my research on the need for nurses in this day and age.

It seems to me that the possibilities are endless in such a career but i would like your help, if possible, in teaching me what it is i need to do. I want to know how to get over the day to day stresses that come with the job. A male nurse told me once that even he gets emotional from time to time and that there is no way to 'get over' the idea of death but that a nurse learns to cope. But, what if I don't?

money and benifits are not an issue as much as my fear of not being able to handle stress.

tell me if it's right for me please!

thank you all for your help

Andrea, Va

Hi Andrea -

I moved your post to the Nursing Career Advice Forum for more responses. We're glad you're here. There are lots of opportunities for advancement in nursing. One thing you might look into is advanced practice nursing. You'll generally need some experience as a nurse first though.

We hope to see more of your posts on the forums!
