Please help! Need pathophysiology for ineffective breastfeeding?

I can't find this anywhere! Anyone? Thanks!

Featured Replies

That's like asking for the pathophysiology of a headache. The answer depends upon the cause.

You need to assess your mom and baby and determine the root cause(s) of their ineffective breastfeeding.

Do you have a sleepy disinterested baby, a frantic baby, poor latch, inability to sustain a suck, poorly coordinated suck-swallow-breathing, physiologic problems like temperature instability, glucose instability, respiratory distress or jaundice?

Or is mom experiencing pain, poor mobility, poor tissue integrity, fatigue, inadequate fluid and nutrition intake, knowledge deficit, lack of support and assistance?

When you've determined your problem, come back and we can continue working.
