PLEASE help me with an interview!!

1. # of years as an LPN/Schools you went to: I have been an LPN since June, 2006. Attended LaGuardia Community College

2. Different roles you have had as an LPN: home health nurse, vaccination nurse, work in adult ambulatory primary care clinic as my main source of employment.

3. How is professionalism incorporated into your job?: Hard to say how that is, because, unfortunately, I don't think professionalism exists at my main job. They pretend right now because they are applying for magnet status. But, I would say at the others, that we have to be well rounded with common diseases, medications and diagnostic procedures. Knowing this does place the patient in a more empowered position to make educated decisions about their health care. Also, by doing this, you are representing your facility well and learning at the same time.

4. Advice offered to someone beginning in this profession: Do not glamourize nursing...it is NOT ER, Saint Elsewhere or MASH. Learn as much as you can by taking continuing education courses, purchase journals and literature. Be proud to be an LPN and gain as much as you can, in case you wish to go further for the RN or to be a more effective nurse.

5. Advice offered to a nursing school student: Stay focused. I stayed to myself during the whole nursing program. While study groups can be advantageous to some, do not count on them to earn your own grade. You are tested on your own throughout school for the most part and will be alone for NCLEX. Try not fall into cliques, because it can be your downfall. Take responsibility for yourself and seek assistance in the areas you are weak in. Also, do not place nurses on pedestals; we are people. Learn what you can without disappointment in the image that you see. Study hard, know that in a year, it will be over and you will attain what you put your energy into. Please tell your class 'welcome to the path of nursing and good luck to you all'.
