Hello everyone!
I am a recent graduate (finished school 12/16) from the state of NY. I have been a 'lurker' for a while and Im hoping someone can help me.
This may sound silly but... I am really quite confused. When I finished school, our class really received no direction on how to apply to take the NCLEX. We were given state licensure and permit applications and were told to mail them in with the fee...that is basically it. No explanation of what to do next.
I have sent in my application for my license and permit to the state and my check has cleared. I have received nothing in the mail to date.
My question is -- how do I sign up to take the NCLEX? Do I need to wait for something to arrive in the mail first? I was reading threads about ATT's but dont really know how to obtain one. Where do I go to sign up? I truly need direction. I have called my school and requested help but have gotten no response.
Thank you all so much for your time. Im so puzzled, its embarassing!:imbar

After graduation, your school will send your information (that you have successfully passed the nursing program and such) to the BON. Once the BON and Nclex operators recieve your apllication/fees/fingerprint cards they will do a background check on you. After this, they generally send you a letter/email saying that they have your information and that your ATT will be in the mail within a couple of weeks. The ATT is your 'authorization to test', a letter that can come by email and/or snail mail. On this letter is a special id number that you use to call Pearson Vue (whose number is on the ATT) to set up your test date. Pearson Vue is a testing center where the Nclex tests as well as others, like the MCAT or LSATs are held. You call Pearson Vue, they ask for this id number, and then give you an available test date and time. I think they have to give you a test date within the next month. You do not have to accept the first date they have available, but can try to schedule it to your convenience based on when they have openings. Along with your ATT is a list of Pearson Vue's testing centers within each state, so you can pick the one nearest to you to take your test at and tell your schedular. Then you sit back for the grueling wait : ) Congrats on your recent graduation! I'm a Dec. grad also, and recieved my ATT on 1/17; scheduled to test on 2/7. Good luck!
Hi STN2003, congrats on your recent graduation and upcoming board date! How exciting for you!!!
May I ask you this? When I go on the Pearson vue website and attempt to sign up, it is asking me to pay the $200 NCLEX examination fee. DO i sign up and pay for this now or after i recieve my letter saying that I am good to go? I want to do everything perfectly without a hitch!
Thanks again, youre an for putting my mind at ease!

The ATT is actually sent out by Pearson-Vue after they have received your payment, as well as approval from your BON. You must pay the $200 fee before you will receive the ATT.
