Please help me get started.....

Published

Sorry if this is long, but I'm 29 and have a BBA in management.

My mom is a nurse and I have always been extremely interested in medicine. I'm also the one everyone wants with them when they see the Dr. or are in the ER, having surgery or anything like that. I'm interested, ask questions, try to understand. I feel this is my calling.

I've been at my job for 10 years now, it is a reliable job, but it isn't something I can sit back and say I'm ready to do "forever".

I am interested in going back to school for nursing, however, I'm stuck as to how to get started.....

At this point, I don't think I could afford to quit my job to go to school full time. I don't even know what to go for!! I know some of my classes I've taken will carry over, but I'm stuck.

I hear about shortages across the country, but don't even know how to go about getting financial aid, or anything......by the way, I'm in the Dallas, TX area.

I'm reaching out, asking for your input & advice to help me get started. This truly is a dream, I'm just trying to reach it!

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Hey Colleen,

You should check with your local hospitals in your area. A lot of the times, they will pay for your tuition and books in return of you contracting with them for 1-2 years. Thats what I did. I only have to work for this hospital for 1 year after graduation. Whats 1 year! You gain experience and you got your tuition paid! I have no other suggestions for you, its hard to go back to school and have to support yourself. I look at nursing school to be a full time job! Good luck,

Chrissy
