Pitocin Induction

What is the staffing ratio when a labor patient is being induced with Piocin? Does it have to be 1 nurse to 1 patient? Thanks

Not always, in a utopia type of work environment, this is the ratio you would want for constant monitoring, however in the real world of nursing you will usually have two pts depending on the size of your L&D dept, and your staffing issues. They really should not give you two pts on pitocin however, but like I said, in the real world of nursing you just might get that scenario.....

I do 2 pit inductions all of the time. They become 1:1 when the are in second stage.

I jus thad a pit induction and the nurse that was taking care of me had 1 other patient until I went into active labor.

Dang, I think I would have gone crazy if she would of had to stay with me in the room the whole time!

Our protocol is usually 1:2. However we rarely have 2 pit pts. We usually will take outpts as needed. It is very hard to keep 2pts because they become 1:1 during epidural placement and during second stage. That leads to no continuity of care.

1 to 1. And we have to stay in the room with the patient. No central monitors.

I'm not crazy about pit inductions.
