Philly Trauma

I posted this on the PA forum, but got no response. I thought I'd try here.

I'm considering relocating to Philly and I was wondering if someone could give some opinions on the various level 1 trauma centers there. I know there are several, which one is the best (or better) and why? I'm talking about ED/Trauma, not necessarily overall.

Thanks!

Temple University, Hahnemann Univ, HUP(Hospital of Univ of Penn), Einstein Medical and Thomas Jefferson are all level I trauma centers in Philly area. TJ also specializes in the spinal cord injured pt. Because they are in the city-they tend to see a lot of 'penetrating type trauma' clientele. Lehigh Valley Trauma Center in Allentown (sl north of Phila) is a level I as well- tends to see more of the blunt type-(different sort of clientele base in the burbs).

Opinions on one vs another?

Where's the best place to work? Why?

Most popular seems to be HUP, Temple. Jefferson, if you like spinal stuff.Anne

Jeff slightly better than HUP due to patient outcomes I see in homecare--slightly less paralysis out of Jeff.

Next is Temple--rougher neighborhood surrounding this facility.

My family experience with Jeff - nursing is superior.

Work in level 1 Philly trauma...

1 If you want spinal cord specialty get good mix of penetrating and blunt trauma...go to Jeff...just recently got a flight service

2 HUP is very well run trauma center...mostly blunt, not too many peds w/CHOP next door..get trauma from all over esp b/c of flight service Pennstar

The one downfall to both of these is location...bad traffic...parking can be tough...but you'll learn alot at both places...

Temple...Busiest "trauma" in Philly...mostly penetrating trauma...VERY fast paced...

Einstein...Busiest Philly ER overall by numbers...see a good amount of trauma...mostly penetrating, but see's a good mix of blunt w/ the Roosevelt Blvd being close by...

The benefit of Temple and Stein...not downtown so you avoid alot of the traffic headaches...but both are in dicey neighborhoods which makes for late night driving a challenge
