PHCC

I'm at SPC too, but also at PHCC finishing up the pre-reqs at both schools to apply for each program's Fall 2010 session. Here's what I know:

It's competitive, just like every place else. When I went to orientation last fall, they said they typically have 300-400 applicants for 50-60 seats. They also said the last class (a year ago now) sat with an average 3.6 and a certain range on the NETS, but they've since changed over to the TEAS. Many students apply to both the LPN & RN programs, so there's some shuffling as people move between the two as acceptance letters go out.

They don't have an evening program for the RN program. All the nursing courses are on the New Port Richey/Ridge Road campus.

The criteria/pre-requisites are different than SPC's. Don't mistake this or the fact that it's a community college fool you into thinking it's going to be easier. I have one of the nursing clinical instructors for my nutrition class...her credentials are impressive and intimidating. She's tough, but fair. I hope I have her in clinicals.

My best advice is to make an appointment with an advisor on campus. Request all your transcripts from SPC be sent to PHCC (it's not a commitment and you can do it online)...or print out unofficial transcripts on your own to take over there for your appointment.

It's a beautiful campus, and honestly I'm torn between which school I want to go to! Good luck!

Hi Everyone!

I was curious as to the nursing program at PHCC... I'm currently a student at SPC but seriously..their requirements are endless and I live in Pasco (they take pinellas county residents first) ...basically I don't know if I would be accepted there!! PHCC has a lot less requirements and it might be great for me! :)

-how hard is it to get accepted?

-where are the nursing classes located? (which campus)

-what are the hours for the nursing program?

hey!! thanks!! I believe I've chatted with you on posts before...jeez i'm torn as well!!! idk what to do but my dream of becoming an RN seems so out of reach at times..it's truly frustrating!! go you though!! compeleting requirements at both schools!! SPC expects sooo much!! which county do you live in?! I'm in Pasco..(have always attended SPC) but I'm thinking the only way of getting is..is by being a resident of the co. of the school you go to.

No problem! Keeping busy here juggling all the classes, getting applications out, ready or waiting on answers. It's not looking great for SPC as they already did their first 70% cut. I applied for the EAYL program too, but they're still lining up 2nd interviews for those they're interested in. It'll be into May before we know anything for sure r/t SPC.

So, PHCC is looking more and more like the best possibility. Of course, the way these processes go, nothing is guaranteed. I know exactly how you feel about it being "out of reach". I actually have a residence in Spring Hill, so I'll update my residency with them before my application is complete. And I still need to take the TEAS...dreading and procrastinating over it. But it's part of a requirement for yet another school that I'll consider should the other options fall through. It's exhausting keeping it all straight!
