8 pg paper question

Here is a description of one of my nursing courses that I will be taking this summer "Trends and Issues" This course is an exploration of health care trends and issues. Focus will be on selected case studies of professional, legal and ethical issues and their impact on nursing practice. We have to write a 8 pg paper. My question is can someone think of some topics I can present to my teacher. I want to talk to her before our break between spring and summer so I can get started on it.

Specializes in Tele, ICU, ER.

Just run down the titles of posts in the news forum. There should be plenty of ideas so you can see what might interest you.

Good luck!

Specializes in med/surg, telemetry, IV therapy, mgmt.

Just took a very similar class as part of my Health Information Management degree. A 6-page paper was due with references. It could be on anything that was of interest as long as it involved the healthcare industry. I found everything I needed on the Internet and cited 11 references. All you have to do is go to the major news reporting sites and start reading the health news to see what they are reporting. You should also check the AARP website. They are always doing studies and reporting their findings of conditions they find in the healthcare industry. You'll find something of interest to you.

I ended up doing my paper on zero lifting laws, they seem to be the rage lately with Texas and Washington already passing laws. Here in California the governor has vetoed three attempts to get one of these laws in place. These laws, in general, are looking to require facilities to have patient lifting equipment so nurses and nursing personnel do not have to manually lift patients. The aim is to reduce back injuries on the job. California passed a Nurse Staffing Ratio Law in 1999 which mandates the number of patients a nurse can be assigned to care for here in California. A number of states have similar proposals in their state legislatures. You can find nursing related law proposals on state nursing association websites. If you go to the state legislature sites you can get specific information about these proposed bills, often along with information about which organizations are supporting them and their reasons in doing so--a great start to organizing a paper!

Some of the other subjects students wrote on were the smart cards used by the military with a soldier's complete medical records on them: pro or con?, the pros and cons of getting one's drugs from another country, new medical technologies coming on the market, new drugs coming on the market, etc.
