I am currently writing a case study on a stroke patient and i am really confused. I am meant to pick two models that i think were/could be used. I have picked Orem and Roper et al. Now i am stuck on what i am meant to write, i have to state whether the model met the needs of my patients. I have books which i have read but I am still confused and would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction!
thanks

orem's theory very basically states that nurses have to supply care when the patients cannot provide care to themselves. do you have your own copy of taber's cyclopedic medical dictionary? orem's theory is in the appendix of recent editions. under the implications for nursing practice is states, "nursing practice is directed toward helping people to meet their own and their dependent others' therapeutic self care demands." take each of the 6 operations that direct how nursing practice should be conducted and show how you have done each in managing the nursing care of this patient. the first operation is nursing diagnosis (determining why the person needs nursing care). you should be able to do that. the second operation, nursing prescription, is the what the nurse is able to professionally provide for the patient, or stated another way, what it is that this patient is going to need of nurses. the third operation, nursing system design, is how the nursing care is potentially going to be given to your patient. orem talks about how nurses actually help patients. will the nurses be provided in a hospital, rehab center, through home health services or a combination of them? planning will be the nursing care plan, specifically the nursing interventions, you will finally end up developing for this patient--your plan of action. regulatory care takes into consideration any laws, policies and procedures (i would also incorporate insurance coverage that might apply) that will affect the nursing interventions and care the patient is able to receive. control has to do with evaluation and management of the nursing system.
as you can see, orem's model is still the nursing process, but it is just broken apart.
roper i am not that familiar with, but if it is the same roper of the roper-logan-tierney model of nursing it is about helping patients accomplish their adls (activities of daily living).
