Greetings,
Considering purchase of a PDA (hp iPAQ) for use in the SICU. I like the idea of having all that info at my fingertips.
Any suggestions for what kind to get and what software to purchace?
I'm not familiar with pocket PCs but hey look good. It would have to be compatible with windows xp as that is the system I use at home.

Tia,
I'm looking into a pda as well (zire 72) but i've found the site http://www.pdabuyersguide.com really helpful. they have a forum where you can ask questions and reviews on all the pda's. good luck with your purchase!

Heartman and sarahmarion123,
If you do a search of threads here on allnurses.com you will find a lovely indepth thread on PDA's: preferred PDAs, and some of our favorite software. I personally have a Dell Axim, they gave me a nice deal (I was a previous customer as well as a small discount for being a healthcare worker). Currently, I am using ERSuite 5.0, ePocrates RxPro and Tarascon Pharmacopeia. There are many other wonderful software programs out there but at the moment, these work quite well for me. Good luck, I think you guys (and gals) will be glad that you made the investment.

PS: On the palm platform side, there are many more free programs for it than there are for the pocket pc platform.....but I like the pocket pc platform. Feels like my desk top on my home computer! :)

Hello everyone,
This is my first time posting on allnurses.com, but I have learned so much from all of you over the past couple of months! This website is fab!
Currently, I am working as an intern in SICU and will graduate as a RN in May. I just bought a Tungsten T5 and am looking for ICU software for it. Someone suggested kathywhite.com (Fast Facts for Adult Critical Care). Has anyone bought this book or used the PDA software? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Sounds interesting but $64 for software sounds a bit high!

Check out my site http://www.ernursemedicpalm.com and click on "Training". You can download a PowerPoint I did for a graduate nursing program on PDA basics and Why a PDA in Nursing.
I hope to later load up a presentation that describes what I carry on my Palm.
