I may have the opportunity to land a job in our SICU. I have no prior ICU experience, only cardiology step-down. My prior employer the patients were more acute than the patients we currently get. Since we are a smaller hospital the SICU receives all post-op patients (well ones that can't go to PACU after a procedure).
I've been debating about accepting. My anxiety is kicking in an only projecting negative thoughts LOL. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Any advice?

Everyone in ICU had to start there some time. If you feel like you're ready to move into a critical care position it sounds like a good opportunity. Surgical patients can be more straight forward at times than medical, you have a better idea of what you're going to get many times. Either way, the only thing holding you back is your own anxiety, so figure out why you're so anxious about it. You were new in step down at one time, and that worked out, right? You're just new with a sicker patient population, but you also have more experience. Good luck with your decision.
Thank you. You bring up some very good points.

Accept it! It is an amazing opportunity. They will teach you what you need to know. I started in the SICU as a new grad. As long as you're eager to learn and ask many questions, you can succeed!
