PCT/Nurse Tech

Published

I'd like some advice on finding these PCT and Nurse Tech jobs often times offered after the fundamentals course is over or the first semester is completed.

Perhaps you can share how you personally found your tech job?

Did you call HR? Visit the hospital site? Was it easier to land a position somewhere you did clinicals?

How about working at doctors offices? Nursing homes?

Personal experience is the best so I'd love some advice from there.

(I'm beginning nursing school in late August)

I'm from Houston, TX! If that helps any :)

Specializes in Med/Surg, Float Pool, MICU, CTICU.

Most jobs are posted through the hospital website due to the volume of applicants. To find a nurse tech position, look under "nursing (professional)." For pct, look under "patient care support, nursing support, pca, na, and cna (if you have your can)."

I just google some places to help you out :)

ST LUKE: unit secretary and patient care support position. HCHD: patient care tech position. MEMORIAL HERRMAN: patient escort and noninvas cardiac tech.

I'm sure there is a lot more, but here's a few to start. A lot of the positions are listed for full-time, but I did see part-time position available under these position. The ones I listed don't require a cna, but would prefer health care experience. I would mention that you will are a nursing student starting at the end of the month. This will give you a way in, then you can transfer to the department that you want when a position opens. Hope this helps!

Thank You SO much!(= As far as healthcare experience goes... I worked at the nurses office at the high school and I worked at the local nursing home. My junior year of high school I did a program that offered 'clinical' rotations. Don't know if it's worth putting in my resume, it currently is listed though.

No problem! I say those are good experience to put in your resume. It's all about presentation, so emphasize your duties and highlights of that section. Ask for references from the school nurse, someone from the nursing home, and instructor of your clinical rotation course.

Specializes in L&D.

I emailed/called the Nurse Recruiter at our hospital. I got her info from higher level students who had been nurse techs. I started this week!

You can also search the hospital's website and look up their jobs, but I'd encourage you to contact the nurse recruiter for some info. And yes I have had clinicals here as well, but haven't had any contact with the recruiter or the staff where Iwill be working prior to applying/being hired.
