Passed NCLEX!

Published

This is my first post to allnurses. I graduated nursing school on May 15th and did not get my ATT number until June 30th. This was very difficult to handle since my school made it seem like we would get our ATT around 2 weeks after graduation. Once I got my ATT on June 30th, I immediately logged on to Pearson to schedule my testing date before July 9th (in order to start my new-grad RN position on the 13th). Once I logged on to Pearson, I was shocked to find out that the only testing date before the 9th was July 1st...the NEXT DAY after receiving my ATT! Not only was my test the next day, but I had to travel 2 hours to get to the testing center. In the end, the roadtrip was worth it. I passed in 184 questions!

Study material:

1. Mark Klimek - if you have the chance, take his course. He teaches you many different tricks/material that I never picked up in nursing school. I reviewed both his yellow book and blue book. The yellow book is lecture notes that we go over during his class. The blue book is a bunch of questions and answers on different topics.

2. Kaplan - this is what helped me the most. Our school purchased Kaplan for us to study. I took the whole Q-Bank (~1300 questions) and averaged a 61%. I was discouraged by my scores at first, but apparently Kaplan wants you to aim for a 60%. I took trainers 1-6, but not trainer 7 or the practice tests since I tested the next day after receiving my ATT.

I believe the best way to study for the NCLEX is to take questions. I left NCLEX feeling like I could have studied material for months and wouldn't have passed.

I took around 2000 questions. My advice is to not only take questions just from Kaplan. Try to take questions from multiple sources because everyone words their questions a little differently.

It's still surreal to me that I'm an RN. I can't wait to start my new job on the 13th!

Congrats! Taking the NCLEX right away saved you anxiety! When I got the ATT, I scheduled for 5 weeks out and then rescheduled sooner. I should get my results today!
