Pasadena ADN Fall 2013

This will be my first semester applying to ADN programs! I am hoping to move to the Los Angeles area either for nursing school or after it; I just wondered if Pasadena Community College (PCC) gives favor to those already in the LA area. I mean, will they still take my application seriously even if I am in Northern California? I know for their Anesthesia Technician program, they ask for a statement of intent. Is that true for their ADN program?

Also, I took Microbiology 8 years ago (but I took Anatomy & Physiology last year). PCC website says it's "highly recommended" to take it within 5 years. Does anyone know of a case where someone took a science class more than 5 years ago and got in?

Here are my stats:

Overall GPA: 3.1

Science GPA: 3.71 (Micro: B, A&PI: A, A&PII: A)

Non-Science Prerequisite GPA: 4.0

*Need to work

*Veteran/Honorable Discharge

TEAS V: 86%

Congrats!! You'll love it in Pasadena! I really like that city and its close to LA :) Downtown Pasadena also has a lot of great stores and restaurants. Good luck with everything!

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm glad because I can tell my friend who is a 3rd semester student at Pasadena right now about this. He was worried about what was going to happen with jobs and rn-bsn programs.

No prob! I know it can get confusing with all sorts of accreditations. Pasadena is a great school and they have awesome rates for passing the NCLEX. I read in another post that Kaiser doesn't hire people from non-NLNAC accredited places. I have some friends who work at Kaiser so I'm trying to find out if its true. Hopefully not, but I'll let u know! And if it is, there are still PLENTY of other hospitals in the LA area. At least he knows he won't have a problem transferring to get his BSN :)

Thanks! Yeah we are moving to Westwood (rent-free!) which will be a commute, but I have heard really great things about both the city of Pasadena and the RN program :)

Good luck for Monday!
