Part-time case managers?

Hello all,

I'm increasingly interested in the fields of case management and utilization review, but I must admit, have been spoiled by the ability to work part-time in acute and ambulatory care nursing. It appears that most jobs out there in case management are full time positions, at least from what I've seen posted thus far. I'm not yet ready to make the transition to full time until my kids are school age. Just curious whether finding part time work sounds feasible, or if there are particular companies/industries that may be more likely to hire part time. Thanks so much!

Hello. I have been in case management for 10 years and unfortunately I have never seen Part-time offered. There are UR jobs however, in case managent that are telecommuter jobs were you can work from home! Im not sure where your from, but in Texas you can check out the managed care companies like American Universal and Molina. Good luck!

OP: Keep looking! I have worked both Full-time and Part-time CM positions for years. There are also Per Diem and Travel/Contracted Agency positions available. I work in one now.

By the way, I like Per Diem and Part-Time nursing positions too. They allow me full-time hours without feeling stuck in one job or in one specialty because I can work two to three nursing jobs at once and they are not the same. However, during the same time frame I am gaining a variety of nursing work experience that covers multiple areas. :) Good luck! :)

Part time is doable but rare! I currently work part time as a ER case manager and I also own my own consulting business. I had to wait for the right time to get that part time position because most were full time!

Yep, me too! However, I am seeing more part-time offers available these days. I suppose it depends on the local job market and the company.
