Parent Support Groups

Published

Hello all. I will be initiating a support group in our NICU. I'm looking for suggestions on topics or any other helpful information. Thank you in advance!

I think the best thing that you can do is to give the parents a resource booklet. All helpful numbers to help them moving forward once they get their baby home. (Early Intervention, for instance)

Helpful tips, reminders, that kind of thing.

Support groups are so awesome, in that it gathers parents to be able to really understand with parents who need to understand.

But take homes are important. So that they have information if they need it at home to be able to respond accordingly to any needs that the baby will have going forward.

Feeling isolated and unsure of how to proceed is huge.

A support group made up of former parents who mentor current NICU parents? Or a support group where you as a nurse offer support to current NICU families?
