paramedic to RN in the ER

Published

I've been a paramedic for 11 years and am graduating from nursing school in December. They have offered me a job in the ER as an RN(17 beds serving 100-140 pts/day). On one hand I am a new grad, on another I have 11 years of patient care experience. What advice can you give me as I make this transition?

Don't worry about it first of all. Just focus on being the best Nurse you can be, tilze the skills and knowedge about emergency medcinine that you hav aquired over the past 11 years, and know that there are many like you out there. :)

At times the transition can be frustrating, especially when there is a skill that you did routinly, pre-hospital, that you can't do as a nurse. But just keep it in perspective and keep learning.

Congradulations, welcome to the fold, and have fun.
