PACU care

Hello! I recently applied for a position as a clinical med. technician in the PACU of a pediatric hospital and got an interview.

Just wondering what kind of work I could find myself doing. I'm an EMT-B trained to do IVs and a pre-nursing major.

I understand that I'll likely be monitoring vitals and post-operative pain, taking patients to their rooms, etc, etc but what else goes in the PACU? How often do complications arise? Are there any procedures that are performed on a regular basis? Any advice?

Thanks ahead of time.

We don't have a aid in our PACU, unfortunately, if we did, I could see you being assigned to assist with transport, make sure that oxygen tanks on the stretchers actually have oxygen in them, stocking supplies, assisting with patient care ie: helping roll patients who have had a spinal, running to pharmacy if a med is ordered that we don't carry (happens occasionally), cleaning each stall after a patient has left, including the suction cannisters, helping boost patients, putting orders in computer for labs or EKG or portable chest x-rays, helping clean up spills, etc... The nurses do all of these things too, at least in our PACU - I wish they would approve a tech position. Good luck to you.
