PA Scope of Practice and delegation

Published

I am writing a paper for my BSN on delegation. I have to have the definition of delegation from the PA Nurse Practice Act. But I can not find anything. We also have a Scenario that we are to say with proof from our PA nurse practice act if a nursing assistant can remove a PIV if they have been educated on it. I can not find anything and I am panicking..

Then after that we are to compare with another state with there ruling based on their nurse practice act if the care partner can remove a PIV.

Am assuming you are saying the state of PA. At first I read it as a Physician Assistant and was confused.

I suggest you get a copy of the PA Nurse Practice Act to see what it says. You said you could not anything, but I suspect you will to have to read and look further. (I looked at the CA Nurse Practice Act and found it quite daunting.) Now don't panic. I have never been in an acute acute facility where a nursing assistant/care partner could remove a peripheral IV. Another suggestion is that different hospitals, again acute care hospitals, have specific policies and procedures that state what can be done by employees, so they have to be considered too. You also didn't say if you were an RN going on for your BSN or were an entry BSN student. If you are already an RN, those critical thinking skills will give some extra help. If not, no worries. Professors want students to be able to back up their thoughts and ideas with facts, so this is a good exercise for you.
