overtime after 8 hours?

I have been contacted by a company that recruits nurses for hospitals in the sacramento area. I haven't got all the details yet but was wondering what to expect for base pay, and I've heard that in Cali, overtime starts after 8 hrs. is this true?.. any help is appreciated. thanx

Overtime after 8 hours, double time after 12. This is ONLY if you are scheduled on a regular basis for 8 hour shifts. Ten or twelve hour shifts are different. The contract you sign with the hospital spells out when this occurs, so you have to be comfortable with the rules. I thought this was a federaL law and not a state one. I probably am wrong, usually are when it comes to this. This is the way it has been at my hospital for 26 years. Mike
