OSCE Review

Published

Hi does anybody in the group did the osce? Any tips or review materials to share with please..

There is more than one country that requires OSCE, which country /province are you planning to do the OSCE?

@dishes hello im planning to take it in canadado have you taken it before?

I am Canadian educated and licensed, I do not need to take the OSCE. If you do a search using the search tool in the top right hand corner of AN, you can find other IENs who are preparing to do the OSCE in Ontario (NNAS experience is one of the more recent threads)

The OSCE in Ontario contains 12 stations where candidates play the part of registered nurse and interact with a standardized client/ actor who plays the role of patient in a scenario. To prepare for the OSCE, suggest you create a study group of at least three people, one to play the nurse, one to play the patient and one to play the assessor. Have each group member make up a few patient scenarios. You can get ideas for scenarios by watching the College and Association of Registered Nurses Alberta (CARNA) series of videos about common scenarios and registered nursing practice in Canada. The series includes scenarios on topics such as; Discharge Teaching, Culturally Sensitive Issues, Inter-professional Team, Communicating, Patient Refusal of Care, Total Assessment, Code, Advocating for Patient Rights, Reporting Errors. (You can find the CARNA videos on youtube)

Hi dishes

Are you familiar with lippincotts procedure? Or lippincotts solution?

Hi dishes

Are you familiar with lippincotts procedure? Or lippincotts solution?

I'm not familiar with Lippincotts procedure or solution textbooks. Most Toronto area nursing students use procedure books by the authors Perry, Anne and Potter, Patricia. You may be able to borrow nursing textbooks from your public library, or buy used copies at a university or community college used bookstore or buy used copies off of kijiji (if you use kijiji meet the seller in a safe location).

@chachi have you watched the University of Manitoba Faculty of Nursing skills videos? Have you watched physical assessment videos on youtube?

Hello yes im watching that. Im not sure though if that should be enough, but those are great help!

Maybe im just anxious.

Thank you @ dishes!
