oregon nursing programs

Published

I have several questions and am open to all advice! Has anyone gone to Linn-Benton community college for their ASN? How was the program? How many points did you have? I'm also giving thought to western oregon universty for the accelerated 3yr bsn which is a part of OHSU. Anyone have any experience with this program?

Are nurses being hired here in Oregon? Is it worth the extra time to get my bsn instead of an ASN? Any help or insight would be great thank you all.

It has always been my understanding that if you are missing more than a few points you will not get in. As in, if you get something less than an A in any of the 8 prereq classes you must retake it or if you dont have your 480 CNA hours, which are currently worth 4 points you will have a tough time getting in. Getting on the wait list isn't so hard but actually being accepted to the program is quite difficult. From everything that I have heard and researched LBCC puts out some good nurses and had a respectable program. However, with the current nursing climate it will be more difficult in coming years to obtain a prized hospital job with an ADN. Because of this and because of my future nursing goals I am only applying to BSN programs. It just makes more sense for my personal situation.

Best advice I can give is sit down and think about your long term goals, discuss them with family and friends, and weigh the pros and cons of ADN vs BSN as they apply to you personally.

Best of luck!
