OR nurse managers, let's talk!

If you're an OR nurse manager, or director I'd like to share some conversation maybe ask questions, let's talk!

Specializes in OR RN Circulator, Scrub; Management.

I'm an assistant director for a 8 suite OR and would love to chat.

Stacy,

Hey, thanks for the response! Most OR's are always trying to improve on start times, and turnover times. What methods do you currently use to improve the efficiency of your unit, motivate the staff?

I am a new nurse manager for a 5 room OR including the Pacu. Would love to "pick the brains" of other Or nurse managers.:uhoh3:

Hi, I have been the Director of Surgical Services of a 3 room OR for about 6 years. I also have PACU, DSU (preop and phase 2 postop area), and sterile processing. Turnover and start times have always been an issue, mostly due to the fact that surgeons and staff have their own idea of what those mean! I have heard of tying monetary incentives to both of these and to supply issues also. I have just joined a consulting group to help track some of this in hopefully a more meaningful way. Would love to have an on going discussion regarding the "special" issues surgical services have. Like PRODUCTIVITY!!!!:bluecry1: Thanks. Jean-Marie

i too would love to chat. maybe we could share information on alot of practices and ideas. i have recently started as director of surgical services for a 4 room OR. and 2 room endo unit. i'm having difficulty with what is accepted practice in an OR. i see LPn's stapling inscions closed for the surgeon, MD's starting IV's without gloves, etc. i'm beginning to think i should of never taken this job.

when i question these practices i'm told thats how it's done in the OR.

Specializes in Informatics, Surgery.

I would also love to discuss some issues with this group. 30+ years experience in the OR, currently OR and Central Supply Nursing Director. Challenged with productivity measures, turnover times (as always), "hand-off" communication JCAHO patient safety goal, and the new JCAHO tissue requirements.

Let's talk!

I am the manager of a 3 room OR along with PACU, ENDO, Central Supply and Sterilization along with an ambulatory care unit caring for various outpatient needs. Networking with other directors is an asset to all of us if only to know that we share the same struggles. I would love to chat with all of you on issues. I am new to this site so bare with me as I learn the system.

Hi, the last posting sounds alot like me and my situation:)

Here is a link to an excellent way to network with other OR nurse managers-it's great!
