Online programs

Hi, I am new to allnurses, I am looking for people that have tried and been successful with the online nursing programs LPN to RN. I really want to go back and get my RN degree but working full time and family matters are keeping me from a traditional program. I am very skeptical of the easy answer. Can someone give me some feedback. Thanks!

Hi Tracierr ... I did not want your message to go without a response. I am not aware of any LPN - RN online programs. I do know that Excelsior College offers LPN - RN education, but it is through self-study and testing, not online. I know that the Univesity of Phoenix offers an LPN to BSN program, but I am not sure if that is at their traditional ground college or if it is with their online program. There are few, if any online programs for LPN to RN because of the intense clinical requirement. Most RN-BSN programs even have some clinical element, but only admit nurses that hold and active and unrestricted license, so they can get their clinical time at their place of employment.

I applaud your desire to move ahead and obtain your RN. I was an LPN for 17 years and thought I would never finish and get my RN. But as a single father, working, I decided I needed to finish the RN so I could have more flexibility and better wages. It can be done, but it takes some strong commitment. Good luck in locating an online program. If you find one, please post your results here so others know about it.

Take care.
