Help Are there any LPN's in oklahoma that are doing the excelisor RN online program. I was wondering about the board requirements for clinicals(obgyn and psych). Would appreciate any info. Thanks

I am an Oklahoma Excelsior ADN student and have been wondering the same thing. In traditional schools you can test out I thought, wouldn't it apply for us? I work full time so traveling a long way for these clinicals will be difficult for me. They haven't even provided a list of available sites. I contacted Excelsior via e-mail regarding information about clinicals and when/how to set them up and they responded that I need to contact them when I'm ready. DUH! I need to make plans ahead of time! It would be very helpful if they would include this in our info packets.

If you don't mind my asking, where in Oklahoma do you live? I feel so alone out here all by myself trying to study. Would be helpful to have someone to study with! :nurse:

I live in mustang, I have found out that there is a CPNE site in Amarillo, TX which is not to far. Where are you at in the program? I am just starting with the first course?

cheyene, i am an lpn moving to mustang soon. am new to the area and wondering if you could recommend a good place to work. i have been an lpn for 23 yrs. and have lots of experience. am currently working prn for a hospice and f/t for ped home health. thanks.

Hello, I was a LPN in Ok when I started excelsior. I was in Fort sill. I tested on Fort Sill by Paper.. lol.. But I did find out that the clinical site for the Psych and Ob was in Mid West City. I guess the other side of OKC... That is 30 hrs each in both sections. There is no testing out of this and it has to be done before Ok will let you sit for borads. They were trying to open more sites up. I know the hosptial I worked for was willing to let me do the OB clincals. However the problem was that I was a peds nurse and often floated to OB. So the only way they will accepted that was if I worked with a Nurse that did not know me... Most of my RN co workers, I talked to about it said they would not pass me jsut becasue they knew me becasue of their lic also on the line. They sure were not any easier on me during PALS and NRP. They were actully harder of ped nurses. "You are the first line of defense, you need to know this" I got through it though. Glad they treated us that way I know my stuff because of them. Contact the OBON. They are very helpful if you get the right person on the phone! Keep trying. Excelsior was even helpful when I called them. 30 hours of clincial experience is easy if you compare it to what other states require. Good luck Kallie

So am I reading correctly? The state of Oklahoma has clinical rotation for Excelsior students? Not just CPNE? You actually have to do clinical rotations for Excelsior? If that's the case, I wonder why California doesn't do this.

yes, after you complete the CPNE you must complete two 30 hour clinical rotation. One in Psych and the other in OB. It must be on your transcripts for excelsior. So for instance after you complete or even before the Cpne you may do the Clinicals and the paper work must be sent to Excelsior so the time is put on your tanscripts. Then you send your transcripts to OBON. Then you take the NCLEX. I dont know why CA does not do this. I just know this is a requirment for OK. I think the situitation with CA is completly diffrent.
