Okinawa

Any active duty out there that has been or is currently stationed in Okinawa? Trying to figure out how one goes about locating housing (do most people live on base? or off base?) and how many cars are you allotted to ship? I believe it is only one car, but am not sure. I have two cars so I am trying to figure out what to do with the other. Any advice/pointers would greatly be appreciated. Feel free to send me a private message, if you like.

Thanks!

I was not stationed at Okinawa but elsewhere in Japan a few years back.....You will NOT be able to ship a car to Japan per Japan rules. The Gov't will pay for one car to be stored at certain facilities in the US while stationed in Japan.

Depending on where you go, you can ship cars here to Japan. the vehicle has to go through an exhaustive inspection, and a lot of American cars don't pass. The base we are stationed on has several American cars and I've seen a few out in town as well (I even saw Hawaii plates on an obviously Japanese owners car!).

Military will not pay for you to ship a car to Japan.
