OHSU Summer 2019

The deadline just passed and I haven't been able to find a thread on the 2019 Oregon Health & Science University CRNA program. I know It's competitive, SO I figure there are more than a few applicants on this site that would like to learn/share information about this term's application process. I just applied, I have good grades but only minimal ICU experience time. Hope you all would consider sharing any thoughts or insight. Thank you.

OHSU is my number _____ choice in CRNA programs. 12 members have participated

Hi Joe! Fancy seeing you here! :)

LOL!!!! (well, you won't find me in Utah...)

I have been waiting to see if they get their DNP accreditation. I think they find out Friday?? The interview dates are still TBD...in previous years they send out interview invites in January and interview on Th/F the first two weeks of Feb. It'll be interesting to see how that changes if they are doing a summer start for the DNP instead of fall for MN.

Right? I keep checking OHSU's website to see if they have posted the nurse anesthesia interview dates. I would think interviews would need to happen in December for a summer start.... Really hoping for an interview invite :/

I applied. I thoroughly enjoyed answering their applications questions. I love programs that ask questions outside of the norm.

They told me decisions wont be made on interview invites until December. Soooo far away

No, that is soooo far away!! Ughh. I thought the essay question was actually kind of difficult and clunky to respond to - there were lots of moving parts, no?

Propofolsbff, you applied last year, didn't you?

Yes. No interview invite. Hope that isn't the case this year.

You know anyone that interviewed? What kind of questions were asked?

So, (not so) funny story. This is my 3rd yr applying to good Ol' OHSU. First year I received an interview. It was also my first year as both a nurse and ICU nurse. It was a panel interview with 6 faculty/CRNAs They asked the typical why do you want to be a CRNA, and they asked a lot of behavioral questions-how you handle stress and get along with people basically. They asked me to give the pathophy of DKA and gave a clinical scenario. That year they got a new director for the program. I don't know anyone that interviewed last year, but you can look up last years thread. I did attend the info session back in August. It sounds like they are now giving a written test prior to the interview -CCRN like questions I think and last year the panel with 12 people. I know they got like 175 applications last year, about 60 more than the previous year. I wonder if the transition to a DNP and the earlier deadline with bring that number back down. They only have 10 spots, which makes that super bad odds. I took a screen shot of the PP from the info session. It says its a 25 min interview, with questions related to Academic and clinical background, critical thinking skills, adaptability, professionalism

Wow. You're persistent. Have you applied to other schools or are you deadset on going to OHSU. I'm impressed you got an interview as a first year nurse! You should be proud of yourself.

When they asked that question.. was it prompted by you? Like did you say something about DKA?

I should be propofols(persistant)bff for sure :) That first year I only applied to OHSU. Last year I applied to OHSU and Gonzaga. I was waitlisted for Gonzaga. This year I applied to 6 schools. So far I have one no, one waitlist and one interview I am waiting to hear back from and then OHSU and two with deadlines this week. I don't remember saying anything to prompt them to ask about DKA, I think they just picked it because I work in a MICU. But my experience in other interviews-you can definitely lead the interview by only mentioning things that you can talk about in depth.
