Ob Help!!!!

you have to know what goes on during normal pregnancy, labor and delivery. that in and of itself is a lot. it mostly requires study. without that knowledge it's almost impossible to understand all the complications that can occur. c-sections are surgical and other than being surgery on the reproductive organs, carry all the side effects that can occur to any surgical patient, so keep that in mind. also, because these patients tend to get epidural anesthesia almost exclusively, you need to know that side effects and complications of this procedure and anesthesia.

Discovery Health just finished up a documentary series called Birth Day. It is excellent. Rent it and spend a saturday vieweing all the different shows. One is hypertension, one is abnormal fetal heart tones, ect. Watch the nurses, the monitors, teh meds they hang ect. I am a L & D RN and thought it would have been perfect for when I was in school.

Link below to an excellent book. It is outline format with 10 nclex type questions at beginning and end of each chapter plus access to lots more online at the prenhall website. ( http://www.prenhall.com/hogan/ ). In fact you might be able to just get an code on their website and do the questions for each chapter. I have bought this series of books for EVERYTHING from fundamentals to pharm and they are great. It seems like our instructors lectures follow the book almost exactly and I'm sure most SON's are the same as there is basic info that they all are teaching. For me one of the best ways to be successful is to do LOTS of nclex style questions. Even if you get them wrong reading the rationale will help solidify things for you!
