NYC Residency Programs 2022

Hi-

I graduate with my BSN in May 2022, and plan to take my NCLEX as soon as I can. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get into Externships during my program (I have a GPA of 3.6, but I'm also a second degree student).

I'm wondering how the whole nursing residency programs work? When should we start looking? Where to look? How to apply?

I'm just a little confused about the whole process and have little guidance.

Hi, just responding based on what I've known (new grad here). Without a license, majority of NYC hospitals won't hire you so I didn't see the point of applying. If you apply to HHC hospitals, you are automatically entered into their residency program since you have no experience (that's a year, I believe) the pay is the same across all, from what I've seen. Apply to private hospitals too since you have your BSN but again, you would need your license already issued before starting anything in most NYC hospitals.  Good luck!

Hi,

I agree. For NYU Residency you must have your RN license before applying. My recommendation would be to take NCLEX as soon as you can because the BON is unbelievably slow when it comes to issuing licenses ?
