Nursing schools 2012

Published

I'm in my 2nd year of a general science degree however I've decided its not something I want to pursue. I've ultimately decided on nursing. I've taken all of the prerequisite, anatomy, physio, microbiology, nutrition, stats + a crap load of arts and science electives (UofManitoba). I also want to move to Alberta. I know it's pretty early to be thinking about it but really want to get into a program for fall 2012 but I need some information on the type of gpa I need to get. I just want to apply to as many schools as I can. If anyone has any information it would help greatly

UofCalgary transfer student: I was told the cut of was 3.85/4 over the phone which seems unattainable.

UofLeth: ?

Mount Royal:?

UofAlberta transfer: ?

Grant Mcewan: AGPA on last 24 credit hours, not sure what the 2011 AGPA was though

For previous post-secondary coursework (min. 24 credits) at Grant MacEwan, the competitive average was an AGPA of 3.0 and the waitlist average was 2.8-2.99 (for 2011). Go to the website and type in "competitive programs" in the search engine... it should show you all this info. You also have to pass the high school prerequisites listed under regular or mature admission.

This is for the BScN program, by the way.

Thanks I couldn't find that anywhere. I have the highschool prereqs so is it safe to assume I need a 3.0+ average this year on the 10 courses I'm taking (each is 3 credits)

Yes, that is right. As long as you meet the requirements, you can get in on a first come, first served basis. I think applications open on Oct 1 (so no, you aren't thinking about this too early). It takes months for them to actually start giving out acceptance letters though.

Thanks. If any one else has entrance averages on other universities such as Lethbridge please share.

Hi, as of right now the U of A doesn't have a transfer program, but does have the after-degree program and the regular four year program. You might be able to get credit for some courses in the four year program though, like English and A&P.

As for the U of C, they did tell me that the transfer competitive GPA for Fall 2011 was 3.85, but they also said they had a low number of seats available for the Fall intake of transfer students. There is also a January intake and that GPA could be quite a bit lower, it depends on the demand for the program. And this is only the second year of their new curriculum that allows students to transfer into year two (I think), so next Fall there might be lower demand? You could try calling the U of C and asking what their competitive GPA for January is, just to get an idea of whether it is still very high (unless the 3.85 refers to January too!).

Best of luck!
