Hi! I hope all is well. I have been trying to make a decision before applications for the 2027 Summer/fall season. I am from Florida and currently getting my masters in public health. My masters was a form of a break for me because I wanted to wait to do nursing. Now that I am almost finish I am considering applying this cycle. My goal is to be a CNM and serve underserved/rural areas or even eventually pacific island care facilities. Some of my pre-reqs I have a C unfortunately however, the one of that offers a MN for nursing accepted me last year if that shows a sign of hope.
Now that I got the background out of the way. I wanted to see if I should just apply to ABSN or open up for MN/MN to MSN pathways. I see a ton of dislike for MN/MN to MSN pathway unfortunately, however, it seems to be about lack of RN experience and schools being expensive. I was wondering for those that have done MN/MN to MSN or know someone who has completed it, once completing the RN portion can't you work even if its part time to acquire that experience while going through the NP portion? I am always the type to work even if its PRN through schooling.
Is there any advice as far as pathways? I understand the new trend of MN for colleges come with a hefty price tag however I also plan on applying to scholarships such as NHSC, Nurse Corps, VA HPSP, Johnson and Johnson, along with random ones discovered.
Some schools I have been looking into are:
UF ABSN
USF ABSN
Emory MN (thought about the MN to MSN but they don't offer midwifery)
UPENN MPN to MSN
Vanderbilt MN prespecialty
Marquette University
UCF ABSN
