nursing resources

Hi everyone. Just to give you a little background on me, I'm a 7th semester nursing school in a bachelors program. I will graduate with my BSN in December '08 (hopefully)! I was kind of leaning towards L & D nursing. I thought the clinical rotation I went through with it was fun and exciting. I just took my end of semester HESIs and got a 740 on the maternal/pediatric portion :down:! If you are not familiar with the HESI, 850-900 is a good passing score. I'm reconsidering where I want to go and don't really have much time to figure it out. I'm not really that familiar with all the different areas of nursing. I know there are tons and I am familiar with some of them. Does anyone know if there is some kind of resource for this type of thing?

I have my EXIT HESI next week and must pass it with atleast an 850 to go directly into my preceptorship. I got an 848 on my med-surg (adult health I and II) Hesis. The bad part of it was I had to get an 850 on it to be excused from the final witha 100! Ick...what a bad day!

I have just completed my final semester in an AASN program. We were required to take the HESI's each semester and many students struggled with them.

I obviously can not coach you as someone with a work history in L&D, but I can say that I would never let the HESI stop me from pursuing my dream job. If L&D is what you desire then I encourage you to set that as a goal.

I have seen many students that were wonderful on the floor. They would interact well with their patients, knew where to find information that would enable them to provide good care for their patients, and they were enthusiastic. I was always amazed when they would question their decision to enter the nursing profession just because they had difficulty with a test. A test doesn't make a wonderful nurse.....a heart, determination, and initiative does.

Another thought concerning the HESI and any test in general. If you struggle in with tests, but find that you actually know the material then a class on test taking strategies might be something to consider. Many of my classmates took one and it improved their test grades by one letter grade or more on the average.
