I'm just curious if any of you are involved in nursing research such as working with patients that are in clinical trials, etc. I think it's something I'd like to look into.
It's funny....when I started this "journey" of taking my nursing prerequisites and signing up at a hospital to volunteer, I was sure I'd want to work in pediatrics, but now that I've been volunteering on an oncology floor (adults, not pediatrics) I'm thinking I'd like to work with adults. Let's just say I've learned a lot about myself!
I also thought that I would hate my physiology class and would be counting the days until it's over, but I actually LOVE the class......it doesn't hurt that the professor is amazing!
My point is, I never thought science and I got along......and now I like science all of a sudden and am actually thinking of looking into nursing research. My question is, how do you get into research, such as working with scientists and doctors, etc. in clinical trials?

Yes, check out the research forum. There are a few of us on here. Also, if you like oncology, look into ONS. Therer have an clinical trials SIG. As for getting into research, you need a solid nursing experience first. Research is not for the faint at heart and you need the experience to back you up since this job is very autonomous. There are a lot of clinical trials in your area. You can see if any of the docs on the oncology floor are involved in research and find out who their coordinators are. You might want to shadow their CRC if you can. Many people find out the job is not as exciting as they imagined. Best of luck.
Thanks for the reply! :wink2: I figured I would have to have a few years of experience before going into research. It's just something I'm thinking about.
