Nursing Programs in NY that accept online pre-reqs?

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm a former New Yorker currently living in Europe. My plan is to apply to nursing programs when I return to the States (in about 1-2 years). I still have both A&P courses and Microbio to take before I can apply.

Where I'm located, these courses aren't available. My only options are to wait 1-2 years until I'm back home, take the courses for a year, and then apply the following year (which isn't ideal, I'm gettin old!)

Other option is to take these courses online through somewhere like Edukan - I did a chemistry course with them once and it was a good experience.

I know a lot of programs won't accept online pre-reqs, so I was wondering if anybody knew of any in the NY/NJ region that do? Just trying to weigh all my options.

Thanks!

I am starting at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in the fall (in the Bronx/ Manhattan), and did 100% of my prerequisites online through Portage Learning. Look into CMSV-- it's the cheapest private RN (though still not cheap) and if you have over a 3.0 and a B in all their prereqs, you will get in. It's not one of those schools where the listed minimum gives you no chance.

I also believe LIU takes online prerequisites-- I met with an admissions counselor who saw my transcripts and didn't say anything about it not being allowed, though I never completed my application or got a formal response that online is ok. Columbia also allows online prerequisites, but I didn't look into that program too heavily due to the absurd tuition. I know NYU has a program where you can apply to be admitted with no prerequisites and finish the prerequisites plus the RN in two years, and there are also a couple ADN programs that are 2 years long and don't require prerequisites.

Unfortunately none of the public programs in New York allowed online prereqs. ? Most of the schools don't, and I was also restricted to online prereqs and nursing schools in the NY area.
