Nursing Path Confuson

Published

Hi everyone, my name is Melissa and I am currently a student at Stony Brook. I am able to get my bachelors in psychology (my major) with a minor in business at the end of this semester. I would like to do an accelerated BSN program, and was planning on applying last fall when i should have, but i let things kind of fall through. Because of this, i was going to stay here an extra year doing a health sciences program, and also get my CNA certification by the end of this current semester. I was going to work as a CNA part time while i finish up this extra year of school (giving me a double major technically, in health science and psychology) and then when this fall comes be sure to apply for ABSN programs in NY. However, i just thought of another option which would be to work as a CNA full time for the next year while i apply to nursing schools and then essentially take the year off of school and then once i get into a nursing school start that the next year. I can technically graduate now, but i am just not sure which path is the best idea. Will having the health sciences double major help me more when applying to this program?

Please give me your opinion on which would be a better choice! I have to apply for graduation if thats what i want to do by March 15!

Thank you all for your help!
