Nursing Online

Published

Has anyone had experience with RN online classes? I want to go back to school and have been thinking about doing online classes for nursing, but I'm not sure how it would work. I've taken some online classes before, but this would be for all of my nursing classes. Just wanted to see if anyone has done online and their experience with it.

Thanks :nurse:

Are you already a nurse? ADN --> BSN or are you trying to become a nurse?

Specializes in Hospital Education Coordinator.

I did part of BSN and all of MSN online and loved it.

We have two schools in our area with online students (generic, BSN who do not have ADN). I have found them to be more mature and self-motivated. They do clinicals in my facility. They are self-disciplined and ready to learn.

Our program is largely online. Clinical rotations, of course, are in-person in the hospitals and there are several face-to-face classes at the university but most of our "class" time is online.

I like the flexibility but there are some drawbacks to not having real-time interaction with the teachers. On the other hand, I study much more in this format than I would if it was in class and I've never found lectures to be very effective for learning.

To be successful, you must be highly motivated, self-driven, and an independent learner. We've lost several folks along the way for various failures in those regards.

Our program has a perfect pass rate on the NCLEX and we get very positive feedback from our clinical sites so the combination of the program and the admissions screening is pretty effective.

I did online classes for my LPN and RN (ADN) through a local community college. The lectures were the same that the face-to-face classes had (power points with audio). I had good success and found it to be very convenient.

I would check out what is available locally, and ask about NCLEX pass rates.

Best of luck to you!
