Nursing as 2nd course

Hi! I am planning to take nursing course in the philippines, i am a licensed dentist in the phlippines so it would take me 2-3yrs to finish if i pursue it. I am planning to take the state board in New York. Is it still possible at this time? Do they still accept foreign nurses? Thank you! God bless!

Yes they still accept foreign nurses but the waiting list for working visa for foreign nurses may take you years

Unless you have sponsors who could either be employers or family members in the US who'll assist you in moving to the US, taking Nursing won't be practical.

First, there is retrogression for employment based visa for filipino nurse applicants. As of now, the priority date the US immigration bulletin released is February 2009. Although it made a great leap of 3 months compared to last month's priority date, there is still a whopping 7 years wait time.

Another issue is the complexity of the application process for cgfns and nclex. The whole thing can be very overwhelming and confusing because of the vast repertoire of documents you would need to fill up, turn in and follow up with different licensing, verification and safekeeping bodies.

Lastly, there aren't enough job vacancies for entry level nurses anywhere in the country. Good Luck finding a job as a nurse after passing the board exam. If you're lucky and you're hired within 1-3 years after becoming a registered nurse, get ready to be underpaid, overworked and become a highly exploited nurse.

The working conditions are very unfavorable, the salary is so menial and the responsibilities are enormous, not to mention the residents, patients and relatives who would sometimes make you want to stick a razor sharp blade in your neck to end your misery.

Having said all these, if you really have the passion for nursing and you could allot 10-15 years of your life waiting to fulfill your American dream using your nursing degree as your golden ticket, then go take nursing.
