Nursing in Jackson

U.S.A. Mississippi

Can anyone tell me about Jackson, Mississippi, I am thinking of relocating there and would like some info on what the town is like and good hospitals to work...Thanks!! :nuke:

What area of nursing is your specialty and where do you live now?

I've heard good things about University. Teaching hospital, great benefits ("state" job), work environment.

Also heard to stay as far as possible away from CCMC! Heard working conditions there are poor.

The local paper for that JAx is http://www.clarionledger.com

I think there is a forum there for locals and visitors, if you'd want to check that out there may be some info there that might be helpful.

Good luck! :)

Welcome to Mississippi! This is a great place to live and raise a family. I live and work in the Jackson Metropolitan area and have worked at several area hospitals through the years.

Of the 6 hospitals in the immediate area, 3 are owned by HMA (a great company to work for) and all three are very good hospitals. As Manna said CMMC has had its problems in the past, but they have a new CNO and a new CEO and things are looking up for them.

I have heard that UMC has had drastic cuts and they are having a hard time keeping nurses, but a friend is a patient in their MICU right now and he has had EXCELLENT care from great nurses.

RMC, CMMC, UMC, St. D. and MBMC have all recently been through JCAHO Survey and they all passed.

All hosptials have their problems and their strong points! You will need to see what fits!

Personally, I enjoy the slower pace and atmosphere of a smaller hospital, so I work at a hospital about 10 miles east of Jackson.

Good luck and if you're lucky, you may see me one day!

Specializes in ICU.

i am quite relieved to hear this.. i do hope that cmmc is coping with its problems. i am from the philippines and in a few months time, hopefully, i will be working in cmmc. i have a 3-year contract with them.hope it would no longer be that "bad" as i perceive it.( based on the posts of some members here.) by the way, what is JCAHO Survey? june55baby, have you worked in cmmc before? or knew some who did?:uhoh3:
