Nursing and Forensics ???

I am a RN nursing student, soon to graduate in May 2011. I was curious if any one else was aware of any nursing positions that with an RN license, could work within the forensics department?? I would love to hear any feed back available. Thank you!

The only one I am aware of is SANE. I could be wrong though.

I have heard of some RN's working in the medical examiner's office collecting foresnic evidence.

That's about all I have. Good luck!

There are many sub-specialties in forensic nursing. The ones I am aware of are SANE (Sexual assault nurse examiners - they help and gather evidence from rape victims), FNDI (forensic nurse death investigators - they help coroners), Forensic Psychiatric nurse (self-explanatory), and sometimes legal nurses and correctional nurses are considered forensic nurses.

I have researched and have found that there really isn't a lot of info about forensic nursing because it is so new, but you should check it out for yourself - maybe you can find more.

I suggest looking at the IAFN website and theforensicnurse.com for more info and specifics. Also, there are some more articles (that may or may not be relevant) at the Forensics Talk blog.

Anyway, good luck with your career!
