Nursing in England

Hi! I am a pre-nurising student in Indiana who has an opportunity to go to England this summer to conduct a research project, and would like to gather some of the info I need before I go.

I plan to research nursing in England and compare/contrast it to nursing in the US. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I will be focusing on the various roles that nurses play, required education, job opportunities, and the types of degrees/certificates in nursing that are available as well as documentation styles, etc.

This project is very interesting and important to me, and I will be earning college credit toward my degree for it.

Thanks in advance to all who reply.

Chris

Wow, I am surprised no one has replied. Have you gone on the internet and looked. I typed in nursing at Stirling University. The royal College of Nurses or something like that came up and had information about nurse training and roles.

I also talked to a British RGN (titles are different) and from what she said it sounds like nurses there have an even tougher time than here. Worse pay, less respect. However nurse midwives are accepted there MUCH more than here. As for role differences the only thing she mentionned was that they never had to do breath sounds and that she found doctors here to be more responsive to her observations or suggestions.

Okay, the website is rcn.org.uk and go to the homepage to skip the pay announcement. Do you know some nurses there work full time and make less than 20K per year?
