Suggest you refer to a post by militaryRN on 03-04-2004 wherein the poster states he/she was fired for inserting an EJ access line during a code. Two MD's present were unable to gain access and directed militaryRN to use EJ.

Since the INS position paper re: EJ cannulation, came out in July/August 2008 in the Journal of Infusion Nursing once policies and procedures are in place and in accordance with your state nursing laws you are good to go. I do have a policy of the actual insertion steps...let me try to find it.

Did you get a chance to find your step by step instructions? I could certainly use that at our facility also.
Thanks.

I was an EMT-I for a total of 5 years here in NC and we were allowed to start EJ IVs if we had to but we can't as RNs.
