Hi, my name is Cynthia. I live in Sacramento CA. I am a mom to a happy beautiful little girl who has special needs. She has a trach, gj tube, orthopedic impairments, non ambulatory etc.. I have been without any nursing coverage for a couple of years because the nursing shortage in home health. And before that without a nurse for about 4 years.. I am going to go through a LVN program starting in January so I can become her INP, but I’m nervous about depending on family for her care. I know they can do it but I am worried they may burn out. My mom is 63, And with her dad living in another household it would be a lot to transport all her stuff a couple days a week to him.. I have heard about INP’s and that’s why I am actually going to school, but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for finding a nurse who is already signed up as an INP who may be willing to take on some hours, even part time. Is there some sort of roster? I have contacted every agency in the area and I have been on wait lists for months..I told them I am OK with new grads too, that I would take the time and show them everything.. I just don’t see them finding someone…
I appreciate any advice or input you can share ?

In my case I will sign up to become my daughter’s nurse and work under her doctors plan of care. It cuts out the agency so you can bill medi-cal directly for your patients care.

Wow I didn’t know the nursing shortage was this severe. Or maybe it isn’t and nobody wants to accept the low pay associated with private duty nursing

It's probably both. In addition, private duty nurses tend to be older nurses who don't want to run up and down the hospital halls anymore, and COVID knocked a lot of older nurses out of the profession.
