One of the best aspects of nursing is the freedom from M-F/9-5 work schedule. This leaves a lot of time to enjoy the pursuit of other activities. I believe it is absolutely necessary for nurses & other clinicians to have a rich and varied life.... it prevents burnout and helps retain your enthusiasm for patient care.
A close friend of mine began flying lessons 18 months after beginning her first nursing job. Since then, she has logged a lot of flying time and now has a 'time share' aircraft of her own. Another nurse friend is an avid sailor - purchased her 'large enough to live on when I retire' sailboat with money earned teaching sailing lessons. I know an OB/Gyn doc who learned to play the piano when he was in his 40's & currently plays in a Jazz band on his time off.
The sky's the limit. Your 'other life' will help prevent burnout and make you a much better clinician.

Hello allnurses, my question is are there any nurses who are currently pursuing another passion? I am someone who have many talents that I would like to pursue in my life atleast part time. I was wondering are their nurses who have a second career? Maybe its a small business doing anything from music, writing, teaching or sewing. How do you manage being a nurse and pursuing your passion? Finally, how do you manage your time around your career as a nurse and your other passion or business? Do you work flexible time and does it make sense to have many passion you wish to pursue? Thanks
