Nurse of the year

Published

Just wondering...any of the male nurses here get "Nurse of the year" at your facility?

Just for the float pool we had one win it this year. I can't remember who won the hospital wide one, but we also had a male icu nurse win a national one.

I've seen quite a few male nurses win Nurse of the Year at my facility.

Well, good! Just wondering...throughout my entire Health System, which consists of 4 facilities, one of them being a large level 1 trauma center, I have not heard of a male RN getting the recognition/award. Not trying to stir anything up, just making an observation. Thanks

Do keep in mind that the number of male nurses in a facility is usually significantly less than the number of female nurses, so it makes sense that there would be fewer males winning the award. Doesn't mean I think it's right or wrong: that's just my view from a mathematical perspective.

That being said, how about you nominate/submit a deserving male nurse for the next award?

Thanks for the reply, I DO get the math. It's pretty "telling" if you ask me. I am surprised daily at the sexism that is in nursing. I'm not young, I'm not naive, I just figured that maybe it would not be as bad as it is. Not that it's terrible, I don't want to overstate it, but it is what it is, time for denial to end...I actually honestly thought that women had more integrity than us men...they don't...

You should come to psych. We have a lot of male nurses here--there's been shifts where I'm the only female on staff--and such sexism/drama has been absent, at least as far as I've seen.
