Nurse Sleep Tech??

I recently saw a job posting for a nurse sleep tech. The company will pay for training for the nurse to become a certified sleep tech. Has anyone heard of this? What would the pay rate be? I'm curious about the job and was thinking about applying.

    It's probably an overnight job doing sleep studies.

    Yes it is an overnight shift performing sleep studies. One of our competitors has hired LPNs in the past. Most states require a licensure after a yr of employment. You either have to be a licensed R.T. or take the RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist) exam (NCLEX of sleep). Word of caution, the field of sleep medicine is going through a rough time. Several insurance companies are refusing to pay for overnight sleep studies and only pay for home studies. which only monitor breathing, pulse and SaO2 (no eeg), so you can't tell if the patient is awake or sleeping. As a result the amount of patients coming to have overnight sleep studies has diminished. I usually use up half of my vacation time due to low census. After 13 yrs as a registered sleep technologist, I am going back to school for my BSN.

    Pay for no experience and not registered in sleep $18-25/ hr depending on location (TX and Fla. much lower).
